Eiko Houzuki is a yandere character from the manga series Dark Gathering.
Background[]
She is in love with her childhood friend Keitaro Gentouga.
She is childhood friends with Keitaro Gentouga and has been in love with him ever since they first met. They both had a shared love of the supernatural and exploring haunted places, which is something they bonded over. This was until they encountered an extremely powerful ghost who bonded them forever with a curse that left both their right hands disfigured. Keitaro, blaming himself for letting Eiko get hurt, turned into a shut-in who lost his ability to socialize, even turning Eiko away when she tried to comfort him.
However, Eiko does not blame Keitaro and tries to think of ways to help save him. Many years later Eiko introduces Keitaro to her cousin Yayoi who had a similar negative experience with the supernatural, as a ghost took her parents. Together the three of them start going around exploring haunted places to try to break their curse and free Yayoi's mother's spirit. It is also soon revealed that Eiko is doing all of this to reintroduce Keitaro back to the world so she can get back that bond they had together as children. Their time apart caused her to long for him and her obsession started to grow. So by introducing him to someone related to her, she could slowly heal him and get back what she lost. Contary to many yandere characters, she actually goes out of her way to help Keitaro make friends at college (including female friends) because doing so will help him get back to his old self and she will be able have his love again. She fully trusts that he loves only her and would never cheat on her.

- She's make a crazy lustful face every time she thinks about Keitaro when she's alone.
- She gets jealous when Keitaro is around other girls, but she does not become violent or possessive.
- She once raced across town in a few minutes when Yayoi texted her that Keitaro was with a girl named Ai. When she showed up she acted like she just happened to get there. However, after hearing about Ai's situation she agreed to help her and they became really good friends.
- She has a secret shrine room filled with hundreds of pictures that she secretly took of Keitaro.
- She secretly tracks Keitaro's location using his phone (though to be fair this has saved his life on numerous occasions when he gets in trouble with the supernatural). Even her cousin Yayoi said she sometimes scares her when Yayoi discovered this. When Keitaro asks how they found him, she said "women's intuition", which Yayoi seconded.
- When they needed to put up security cameras for their safety after angering a powerful ghost, she puts hundreds of cameras in Keitaro's room facing his bed. When Keitaro asks if that might be too much, she tells him she's just being extra safe.
- Eiko is obsessed with the occult despite being afraid of it, however, her fear of the supernatural excites her more than anything.
- She puts herself in danger with the supernatural so Keitaro will save her and she can grow closer to him. Both the rush of her heart beating from being scared and the love she receives from Keitaro arouses her.
- She tells Keitaro that he also loves to feel fear and that they should "cut open the belly of the unknown" and explore haunted places together again like they used to when they were kids.
- She traps the soul of a deceased ghost she became friends with into to a voodoo doll so they will never be separated. This doll acts as a proxy to take damage in her place should she ever get attacked by another ghost and it takes the damage she otherwise would have taken. She made it self-repairable so she'll never lose her friend.
- She once pretended to be a stereotypical murderous yandere for a video with Yayoi, something she was quite convincing with.
