Joe Goldberg is the main character of the American psychological thriller television series You and a male yandere. He is portrayed by Penn Badgley.
Story[]
Joe Goldberg he does birthday in September 19th, in 1988 and was the only child born into a dysfunctional relationship. He idealized his mother Sandy, whom he said was his home no matter where they were. His father was abusive to him and his mother. His mother frequently cheated on his father, often leaving Joe alone in public areas while doing so. His father would physically abuse him, such as putting cigarettes out under his arms, trying to force him to confess his mother's infidelity. His mother would sometimes take Joe and leave his father, usually in the company of another man, but would always come back. She hid a gun in a closet where Joe would often hide and showed Joe, telling him that one day she would kill his father. But instead, Joe later used the gun to shoot his father, protecting his mother from his beating, killing him. His mom told him that he was a good boy who would never hurt anyone and was only protecting her. Shortly after, she turned him over to social services, telling him that being with her was not the best thing for him and he was put into a group home. While there, he was viciously bullied and bonded with a nurse who worked there who was in an abusive relationship and reminded him of his mother. He felt the need to protect her from her abusive boyfriend and blamed himself for not doing so when she later stopped coming to work. He tracked down his mother and went to find her, and it is revealed that she is now raising her new son. She tells him that she needed to start over.
Prior to the series' events, upon catching his girlfriend Candace Stone cheating on him, he immediatly kills her lover by throwing him off a roof and later strangles Candace to death before burying her in the woods.
Season 1 begins with Guinevere Beck - a young, aspiring writer - entering his bookshop. He instantly falls in love with her and starts to obsess over her, which results in not only stalking her, but also breaking into her appartement, hacking into her phone, and later even killing friends of her that he sees as possible rivals.
In season 2, he has moved to Los Angeles to escape from Candace and obsesses over yet another woman: Love Quinn. Unbeknown to him, she is also a yandere and even eliminates Candace just as she has catched up to him.
Yandere Traits[]
Even in difficult situations, Joe always manages to keep his calm and thus always manages to keep himself from being arrested for the murders he commits. He is very manipulative, and even though he doesn't really look like it, he is well prepared to fight and kill anyone who becomes an obstacle to him.
In the basement of his bookshop, he even has a cage where he can keep "dangerous" individuals locked until he knows how to dispose of them - not even his love interests are safe from this fate.
