Satoko Hojo is one of the main characters of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (a.k.a. Higurashi: When They Cry) franchise and also acts as the main villain in the seasons Gou and Sotsu.
Short Description[]
Since the mysterious deaths of all her caretakers (first her parents, later her aunt), Satoko has been living with her friend Furude Rika, who also became an orphan at a young age. For most of the series, she appears to be a very intelligent, cheeky prepubescent girl that highly values her friends and is a master in setting traps.
In the seasons Gou and Sotsu however, she has gone through a change of character: Four years after the events of the original series, Satoko has followed her childhood friend Rika to a prestigious boarding school because none of them wanted to be seperated from another. They soon lose touch however, and Satoko becomes more and more jealous towards Rika's new female friends.

When granted the opportunity, she tries to rewrite the past, but is unable to make Rika stay in their hometown of Hinamizawa - by this point however she has already become a yandere for her and giving up is not an option anymore.
Yandere Traits[]
In addition to her ability of making traps, Satoko is also granted supernatural powers that allow her to trap Rika inside a loop in order to crush her spirit and prevent her form leaving. In order to achieve her goal, she makes Rika and her friends suffer through disturbing and traumatic events over and over, while completely ignoring the part of her that once cared deeply about them.

She is convinced that once she has set her mind to it, she will win Rika's love with certainty - one of the many characteristics she shares with the witch Lambdadelta from Umineko no Naku Koro ni, who in turn tries to trap her love interest Bernkastel.
