Satou Matsuzaka is a yandere character from the manga series Happy Sugar Life.
Background[]
She is deeply in love with and dependent on her girlfriend, Shio Koube.
Satou's parents died when she was young, so she went to live with her aunt. While living with her, she grew up with her distorted understanding of love. Her aunt told her to love everyone, but she wanted to love only one person. She dated many men to find love, but she felt nothing for them. Later, instead of going to her aunt's house on a rainy day, she went to a painter's house. In exchange for the painter drawing her as a model, she started staying at his house. One day, she found Shio Kobe, who had been abandoned by her mother, in an alley and fell in love with her.

- She affectionately refers to Shio as "Shio-chan" or "my beloved".
- Every night she and Shio-chan exchange their vows where they each confess their love for the other and vow to always love and cherish each other. The vows then end with Shio-chan kissing her on the forehead.
- She works very hard at work to earn enough money to take care of Shio-chan and make her happy.
- She and Shio-chan hold a private wedding ceremony in their apartment where they exchange their eternal vows and vow to love only each other until the end. The two of them then exchange wedding rings by placing one of the other's ring finger, before finishing the ceremony with a kiss on the lips. Although this marriage was not legally recognized, both of them consider it to be genuine.
- She holds her wedding ring as her most cherished possession, as it is a symbol of their eternal love.
- She tells Shio-chan that she is so happy.
Yandere Feats[]
- On the day she met Shio-chan she quickly brings her to the painters house to get her help. However, the painter becomes angered by this and begins strangling Shio-chan. Seeing her beloved in eminent danger, she grabs the painting stand and hits him over the head with it, killing him. Afterwards, she cuts his body into three pieces with a machete and locks them inside a bag in a room of the house, before later having his remains be disposed of. This was her time killing someone, though it was entirely out of self-defense.
- When thinking back to this moment she refers to the painter as "that thing".
- She has a strong level of dependency on Shio-chan. She believes that she has a hole in her heart and that Shio-chan completes her. To her, the outside world tastes "bitter" and after being overwhelmed with enough "bitterness" she becomes unable to function and needs to quickly get to Shio-chan to taste her "sugar" and heal her.
- As the story progresses and the more "bitter" things start to appear, she becomes more and more dependent Shio-chan.
- She has a strong desire to protect Shio-chan even if he has to commit crimes to do so.
- She believes that her actions cannot be "crimes" because they are done out of love.
- In order to protect Shio-chan, she tells her that their apartment is their "castle" and that she should never leave it. However, Shio-chan is already afraid of the outside world so she doesn't mind staying.
- She displays a lot of control over her emotions, as she was able to put up with being picked on at work even though the forced overtime meant she couldn't spend time with Shio-chan, all under the notion the paycheck would be worth it to help made Shio-chan happy. However, this slowly ate away at her and she began to feel her heart breaking, believing she'd go crazy if things continued on this way.
- When her boss cuts her check and doesn't pay her for the overtime she begins to snap and start acting crazy. She tricks her boss into confessing to her crime and then secretly records it on her phone to use as blackmail in order to get what she was owed.
- When she meets Shio-chan's older brother and notices he is looking for her she becomes a little worried at first. When she overhears him saying her and Shio-chan's vows (as him and Shio-chan both learned it from their mother) she becomes furious at him for saying it. She picks up a board and starts attempting to hit him with it, but she begins thinking of Shio-chan and calms herself down believing that if she ever lost control she'd lose her life with Shio-chan.
- When Satou is late coming home one, Shio-chan gets worried and goes looking for her, however, she gets lost and begins crying. When Satou comes home and sees Shio-chan is missing she starts to panic and goes looking for her. When she finally finds Shio-chan in the park, she is being dragged by her head by two older men which causes Satou to snap. She pretends to lure the two men over before killing both of them for laying their hands on Shio-chan. This was her second time killing, but similarly it was also out of self-defense.
- Afterward she adds a padlock to the outside of her apartment door so Shio-chan couldn't leave again, not that Shio-chan ever tried to leave again as she was far too scared of the outside world and preferred to stay safe in their "castle".
- When Sumire Miyazaki asked her about her personal things like her home address and confessed her love to her, she went crazy and kissed her to shut her up, then manipulated her into not interfering with her affairs again.
- When her apartment burns down, she and Shio decide to jump off the roof and commit suicide, but as she falls, she finally understands what love really is, realizes her actions, and thanks Shio for everything and dies protecting her with her body.
