Here are listed all our editing guidelines so all visitors and users can have the best experience on our wiki, keeping the wiki clean and safe for everyone. The guidelines will be modified with time, so make sure to follow the page to be notified about the changes made.

Make sure to also read through the other policy pages as well:

  • Rules: The rules that all users are expected to follow on this wiki. Breaking one of these rules could lead to your account being banned, so make sure to read through them.
  • Staff Members: If you need any help or have any questions about these guidelines please feel free to contact a currently active staff member.

General

  1. Keep content relevant to yandere. As interesting as it is that a character went on an adventure or went shopping at a mall, this kind of information is not relevant to the topic of the wiki. That's what their article on their own series wiki is for! So all information added to their article here should relate in some way to their relationship, susceptibility to becoming yandere, how they met their beloved, the yandere tendencies they show, etc.
  2. Archetype names should never be written in plural with an (s) at the end and should not be capitalized unless they are at the start of a sentence. So instead of saying "In media, Yanderes are....", say "Yandere characters are..." in the pages.
  3. The first time the page subject name is introduced it should be written in bold (Yuno Gasai is a character from...), but every time after that it should written as normal (and this caused Yuno Gasai to...).
    • If a page subject has an alternate name then that should be introduced in bold as well (, also known as Harley Quinn, ...).
  4. Always try to write a summary of what kind of edit you do before saving, such as explaining that you are adding characters, images, or quotes. When making a minor edit like fixing a typo, formatting, or correcting titles or names, it's best if you specify it in the summary bar and click on "minor change". This is because it helps admins and other users see what is happening on pages with a quick glance when patrolling edits. This can also be used to mention when you are adding a spoiler for a particular series, so users who wish not to see it can avoid clicking on it.
    • If you do a lot of similar or minor edits, the summaries can be shortened or even skipped.
  5. On this wiki we use the international standard date format of YYYY/MM/DD for all dates. This is done to avoid any possible confusion as to whether the date is using the American or European dating format (it is also the format used in Japan).
  6. Characters and media should use the localized/English dub names and not the Japanese names. This is done to make things easier to understand since the audience on this wiki is English speakers. This includes character names being written in the "Given Name-Family Name" order, unless this is how it is also ordered in the English version (for example One Piece).
    • Making pages for non-Japanese media is allowed.
    • Media that don't have official English names should use its original name in its native language.

Page Formats

All page articles have a shared format, which can be found in the "Preload Template" function by selecting one of the options from the drop-down menu. If you are creating a new page from scratch you must use one of the preloaded page templates to make sure all pages follow the same order of content. Note that you need yo be using source editor to gain access the preload option, so please use source editor at least for the initial creation, you can always go back to visual editor afterwards. You can always use an existing article as a guide to make your edits; the "Sakuna Memoir" article is a good example to follow.

Pages should follow the order of:

  1. Notices
  2. Infobox
  3. Introduction
  4. Content (see sections below for additional content orders)
  5. External Links

Character Pages

Guidelines

  • For the time being platonic examples, as well as characters who who fall under related archetypes such as "yangire", are not allowed here since this wiki is focused only on romance. In the future, we may choose to accept yangire characters as well, but as of now we do not.
    • Characters who are implied or hinted to possibly have romantic feelings for someone they act yandere over that has never been outright confirmed are allowed to be added but they should have this fact mentioned in their introduction informing users of this. This also must be backed up by the original media itself and the page should include "deredere feats" showing the character has an attraction.
  • Characters should have listed "yandere feats" showing the character acts like a mentally ill lover.
    • Characters who only display mild yandere traits or who appear like they could possibly become one in the future are allowed but their inclusion must be backed up by feats in the series. This includes characters who are the fanmade yanheat type being allowed here, they should just have their sickness rating set below a 3 so the "{{Slightly Yandere}} notice banner shows up.
    • However, purely fan fiction about characters who are not yandere "acting yandere", as well as original characters not allowed to be created in the main article space. If you wish to share your creations then it must be done in a user blog.
    • This includes parodies/fan works of real series reimagining characters as a yandere not being allowed.
  • Original characters are not allowed to be created in the main article space. If you want to share your own yandere creations then the page needs to be created in your personal user space. For help figuring out how to add original characters see: Category:Original Characters
  • If either the deredere or yanderu only show up under certain situations or in certain adaptations (as is often the case with visual novels with multiple routes) that should be noted with the feat.
    • For visual novels, you can simply add the {{Bad End}} template or any other route name at the start of the bullet point.
    • For feats that only happen in certain adaptations of the original source, you should create a level 3 header with its own bullet points for that source to keep the traits separate from the original character (i.e, a "manga" header and an "anime" header)
  • Articles depicting so-called "real-life yandere" are strictly not allowed. Yandere is a fictional character trope and we should not glorify this behavior in real-life.
  • Characters that are simply violent, are serial killers, or villains that just so happen to have a love interest do not fall under this archetype. A "yandere" is someone who starts out being cute, sweet, affectionate (like any perfectly normal lover) but over time starts to deteriorate in their mental health as a result of their love being too strong. It is not simply any character who is obsessed with another or any character who happens to be mentally ill and have a love interest, it is a character archetype that deals with a change in personality over time caused by a too strong love. Remember, you must have regular deredere before that deredere can get sick.
    • To ensure characters that are added actually fall under the umbrella of "yandere" the main image inside the character infobox must depict the character in their "deredere" state before becoming crazy.
    • Adding to this, it is not necessary for a character to harm others (let alone kill them) to be considered a yandere, they simply need to have their mental health decline because their love is too strong and behave in irrational ways, which can take many different forms.
  • Characters that have common names (such as "Yuri", which is not only a common name but an entire genre of romance) should have disambiguation in the page title (such as ""Yuri (DDLC)"). The display name can be changed inside of the article itself to not show this by using the {{DISPLAYTITLE:New Title}} magic word.
  • Character pages may be removed if they do not follow these guidelines. However, since determining which character is "yandere" is largely opinion based (outside of the characters who are officially labeled this) and this wiki is just for fun, they will not be harshly judged as long as the character has both "deredere" and "yandere" feats listed on their page and images to back them up.
    • If a character appears to have yandere tendencies but doesn't show signs of being mentally sick, their sickness rating will likely be lowered to add them to the "slightly yandere" category.
    • If you disagree with the inclusion of a character then you may politely start a discussion about them in the comments section or on the character's talk about. If enough people disagree then the profile will be removed.

Official Character Sources

  • If a character has been officially labeled as a "yandere" by their series or creator, you can mark them as such by adding a URL to the character infobox providing a direct source showing where the term "yandere" was mentioned in relation to that character.
    • The source must originate from the official source material, it does not count if just other people who did not create the series call them this (for example, a CBR article "top 10 yandere characters") but the original creators did not.
    • The source should be in the form of a URL linking to exactly where the term was used in connection to the character, whether it's in the series title, description, character about section, licensed merchandise, a quote from the author or actor, another character in the series referring to them as that type, etc. This can be a link to the official website, an online retailer, a credible news site, a streaming platform, a social media post by the creator, etc. If the term is only used inside the media itself, then you may upload an image showing a screenshot of it being used and link directly to that image file on our wiki. If you do this make sure you provide enough context so that people who are not familiar with the series can still tell who they're referring to (such as by stitching together several concurrent scenes).
    • A non-direct source (such as an anime database site) may only be used if the source is the series or character name itself, since the source is merely a formality at that point (i.e, a series called "My Yandere Girlfriend Sara" could simply just link to the "My Yandere Girlfriend Sara" entry on MyAnimeList since the source is the series title itself and the link just proves the series is real). An official source is still preferred, but if none are available then a non-official source is acceptable. If a non-official source is used for any other reason, it will simply be removed to maintain reliability since anyone can simply edit these pages and say the creator called them a yandere regardless of whether they did or not.
    • Users should never remove official characters unless they were added mistakenly and are not official. It is fine to disagree with the subjective opinions of other users on whether a particular character is or isn't a yandere, but you cannot disagree with the creator of the character. If they say they designed their character to be a yandere then they're a yandere.
  • Please avoid making unverified claims inside the article itself if you don't provide a source to back it up (i.e, "the creator confirmed this character is a yandere" or "another character called them a yandere in the series). Claims of this nature will be removed to protect against the spread of misinformation unless a direct source to said claim is linked inside the infobox.

Content

  1. Infobox: The infobox must depict the character in their "dere" (starting) state, so no graphic images are allowed. The medium should be the origin of the character. So if a character is originally from a "light novel" then only "light novel" should be added even if they also later appeared in a manga, anime, and visual novel. For the age, for the sake of simplicity they are grouped into three categories: child, teenager, and adult. For details on the ratings see the instructions on the home page.
  2. Introduction: The introduction should introduce the character and the series they are from ("Character" is yandere/possible yandere from the manga Series), and their love interest. Other notes can also be added here, such as a character being an iconic yandere or being related to other yandere characters on this wiki.
  3. Background: This section should discuss the upbringing of the character, their personality, and the events that lead to the character meeting their love interest/falling in love and becoming susceptible to having yandere tendencies.
  4. Deredere Feats: This section should be in bullet points discussing the "deredere" (lovestruck/doting) feats of the character. This is the initial state of a yandere character where they are sweet and loving.
  5. Yanderu Feats: This section should be in bullet points discussing the "yanderu" (lovestruck/mentally ill) feats of the character. This is the finishing state of a yandere character where they are crazy and possessive.
  6. Redemption (optional): This section should discuss the development of the character that leads to them curing their sickness and once again becoming a completely sweet and innocent person.
  7. Gallery: This section should include images of the character in either their deredere or yandere states. Ideally these images should be ordered chronologically so the character's slow descent into insanity can be clearly seen. Unrelated images should not be added. Fan art is also not allowed inside the article, but feel free to post it in the comments underneath the article.
  8. Quotes (optional): This section should include quotes that the character has said that related to their deredere or yanderu feats. If a character has appeared in multiple different series, then multiple different {{Quote Container}}s may be added each with a different series name. You may also separate the quotes into different quote containers if the series has different self-contained parts.
  9. External Links: This section should include a link to the character's main wiki page. If a character doesn't have a wiki page, then an entry on MyAnimeList or a similar database site will suffice. You may also link to multiple entries if multiple exist, but you shouldn't add links to miscellaneous wikis like the "Villains Wiki". Note that it is not necessary to manually add categories as these are added automatically by the infobox. If you think a new category that isn't covered by the infobox should be created then please ask an administrator.

Spoilers

  • Infobox: It's not necessary to worry about adding spoilers here because the drop-down headers are closed by default. The same applies to quotes as well.
  • Content: If the page content contains spoilers (such as shocking yandere momemts) then you can hide then by using the {{SpoilerSection}} template.
  • Gallery: If the page gallery contains spoilers, then you can also hide the images by simply creating a second gallery smd hiding it with the {{SpoilerSection}} template.

Series Pages

Guidelines

  • Articles about yandere media are allowed on this wiki, but it needs to be the focus of the series as a whole and not just a small part. For example, School Days is a "yandere visual novel" and the origin of yandere as a whole so it can have an article on this wiki. However, on the other hand Komi-san Can't Communicate is just a regular romance manga that just so happens to have a minor character who is a yandere so an article cannot be created for it.
    • If one or more of the main characters are yandere and this theme is explored throughout the entire series, then it eoll count as a yandere media.
    • If the series has "yandere" in the name then it may always be created since that is proof it is a main focus.
  • Pages for amateur series, parodies, or fan fiction are not allowed.

Content

  1. Infobox: The infobox should include an image of the cover of the media. This cover should come from the original version, so it's it's original a manga then a manga cover should be used not an anime cover.
  2. Introduction: This section should introduce the series and explain what type of media it is.
  3. Summary: This section should be a brief overview of the series' storyline.
  4. Legacy (Optional): This section should discuss the historical impact of the series and which other series influenced or which yandere tropes it made popular.
  5. Other Releases (Optional): This section can list off any alternate versions of this series, such as adaptations or remakes.
  6. Characters: This section should include links to the yandere character profiles on this wiki.
  7. Gallery: This section should include series covers, promotional artwork, and scenes from the original media. Some images of individual yandere characters may be added, but most of them should be reserved for their respective character pages.
  8. External Links: This section should include a link to the homepage of the series standalone wiki. If the series does not have, then you may onclude a link to the series entry on a database site such as MyAnimeList or Visual Novel Database instead.
