Yandere is a sickness born from too much love
"Yandere" is a term for a romantic character who at first is very sweet, loving, innocent, and overly affectionate like a normal deredere character, but over time begins exhibiting signs of being mentally sick as a result of having a too strong love. They are the kind of character who will act all deredere and lovey-dovey when their relationship with their romantic partner is going well, but when something triggers jealousy or possessiveness they act impulsively in a way that makes them seem mentally sick.
Their love is expressed as a pathological obsession towards their love interest, and their infatuation and devotion to their love interest is so strong that it causes them to gradually develop an unstable mental state and become "sick". They become so attached to their love interest that it's impossible to let go and they may begin doing immoral things to improve their relationship, such as stalking their love interest or even using violence as a last resort towards anyone who "threatens" their relationship. They entrust themselves to their love interest, trusting in their love interest's kindness. They probe the deepest recesses of their love interest's heart to more perfectly form their greatest self within their love interest.
Yandere (ヤンデレ) is a combination of "yanderu" (ヤンデル), meaning "to be mentally sick", and "deredere" (デレデレ), meaning "to be lovestruck". A yandere character has both sides: a sweet & doting deredere side and a sick & obsessive yanderu side.

FAQ
What's this about?
This wiki is meant to be an easy to access database for yandere characters from anime and manga. The characters are ranked according to the "Yandere Feats" they had in the series, which is the crazy things they have done or said for love. The characters are ranked in 5 statistics: Sickness, Boldness, Commitment, Lewdness, and Status. The ratings are just for fun and are determined by the user so there is no hard guidelines but a rough scale can be found below:
How do you measure Sickness?
Sickness is how far a character's mental health has deteriorated as a result of their love being too strong. All yandere start with a score of 1, but over time they become more and more mentally unstable as a result of jealousy and possessiveness. A character with a lower score only occasionally displays mild yandere traits and will act deredere most of the time, while a character with a higher score will act insane most of the time and may be past the point of being helped. Characters with a rating under 3 will be marked as "slightly yandere".
- 1: Character has no insanity and only displays mild yandere tendencies.
- 3: Character occasionally acts insane, but is loving most of the time.
- 5: Characters acts loving when things are going well and insane when they aren't.
- 8: Character acts insane most of the time.
- 10: Character is completely mentally gone with no going back.
- Extra
- Redeemed: Character has completely recovered from their sickness and is back to being a purely loving healthy person again. This should only be used for characters that were full yandere, it shouldn't be used for characters that only fell under slightly yandere since they had no true sickness.
How do you measure Lewdness?
Lewdness is how much a character has lewd thoughts or has a lewd behaviour towards their beloved. The opposite of lewdness is pureness, so the purer a character is, the less lewd they are. Romance is the balance between between lewdness and pureness.
- 1: Character has no lewd desires.
- 3: Character has a normal amount of lewd desires.
- 5: Character occasionally asks about lewd acts but doesn't push it.
- 8: Character constantly asks to do lewd acts.
- 10: Character is extremely lewd and will be very intimate towards their beloved.
How do you measure Boldness?
Boldness is how much a character is willing to show affection towards their beloved and how willing they are to act crazy in public. Measure it according to how timid the character is, a pretty timid character would get a score lower than 5.
- 1: Character only acts behind the shadows and is too shy to directly make a move or confess their feelings.
- 3: Character will interact with their beloved but will not openly discuss their true feelings.
- 5: Character confesses their love but will hide their crazy side.
- 8: Character confesses their love and will show mild crazy acts in public.
- 10: Character boldly confesses their love and will openly commit any crazy act in public.
How do you measure Commitment?
Commitment is how much a character is faithful to their beloved and how much they are committed to putting their beloved's happiness over their own. A character with a higher score would never do anything to harm their beloved and would even be willing to sacrifice their own well-being to please them, while a character with a lower score would be more willing to move on or end the relationship. Note that killing their beloved means an automatic score of 1, and directly harming their beloved means an automatic score of 3. Characters who don't hurt their beloved should have a score of at least 4 to avoid being grouped in with these types of characters.
- 1: Character is not committed and will kill their beloved if their feelings are not reciprocated.
- 3: Character is not truly commited and will harm their beloved if their feelings are not reciprocated.
- 5: Character is committed to their beloved but will stop trying if their feelings are not reciprocated.
- 8: Character is committed to their beloved but will leave only after exhausting all possible options and attempts to make their beloved fall for them.
- 10: Character is fully committed to their beloved and will never leave or do anything to harm them, even at the cost of their own well-being or happiness.
How do you measure Relationship Status?
Status is the current circumstances between the yandere and their beloved. The most recent status should be added, so if the character never makes it past the "crushing" stage before moving on then that should be added.
- Crushing: Character has a one-sided love for their beloved or their feelings were not reciprocated.
- In a possible relationship: Character's feelings have been reciprocated by their beloved, but it has not yet been confirmed whether or not they are in a relationship.
- In a relationship: Character is in a confirmed relationship with their beloved.
- Engaged: Character is engaged to be married to their beloved.
- Married: Character has successfully married their beloved.
How do you measure Personality Traits?
Personality traits are the type of ways a character's yandere tendencies manifest.
- Delusional: Character suffers from paranoia or cannot accept their current reality and creates a fantasy world in their head.
- Dependent: Character has an unhealthy reliance on their beloved and depends on them for nearly everything.
- Harmless: Character does not behave negatively towards others.
- Homicidal: Character shows murderous behavior towards other people for getting close to their beloved.
- Incestuous: Character's beloved is their blood relative.
- Manipulative: Character will manipulate their beloved from behind the scenes to make their beloved fall in love them.
- Possessive: Character is intensely attached to their beloved and will not let anybody get close to them, including friends and family.
- Stalker: Character will follow their beloved around or spy on them to try to learn every single small detail about their beloved that they can.
- Suicidal: Character will attempt to kill themselves if something happens that comprises their relationship or if their beloved dies.
- Worshipping: Character deeply idolizes their beloved and will listen to everything their beloved tells them to do without question.
What about the Background?
The background should detail the upbringing of the character and the series of events that led to them falling in love and becoming prone to yandere tendencies, such as the character having a lonely childhood and grasping onto the first person to give them love.
What about the Feats?
The deredere/yanderu feats should discuss the various love related actions they perform in the series. The deredere feats will be about love traits they do prior to becoming insane; remember that to be a yandere a character must start out as genuinely sweet and innocent and only start to decline because their love is too strong! The yanderu feats will be about love traits they do after going insane.
What about the Gallery?
Every character needs a gallery of pictures from the series. This both proves the feats/development they have and makes the page look nicer. A profile won't be accepted if it doesn't have a gallery.
What about the Content Categories?
It's not necessary to worry about adding categories as simply filling in the character infobox will automatically add them. See the template page for a full list of available categories.
